Detail stitched into the back of a jacket I've used as part of a Halloween costume as Miho from Sin City. In the movie I noticed that her jacket features a phoenix design commonly found patterned on Chinese silk (see blue slide above). I ordered a sample of the fabric, scanned it, and proceeded to trace a simplified version of the design that could easily be reproduced in a single colour. I printed out my new design in the size I wanted it to be and pinned it to the jacket's fabric. I stitched the lines through the paper with silver thread. When I was done, I removed the paper to reveal the silver phoenix on the back of the jacket. It took a long time to do this by hand, but I'm very happy with the result. I even made a hair clip to match.
